Country Organic Products

by Lloyd Nelson
(Foster City, MI)

Thank you for reading my testimony.

Thank you for reading my testimony.

Why have I chosen to market and use organic products? First, I have experienced herbicide/pesticide treatment of crops first-hand.

My wife and I wintered in Arizona. One day we were sight-seeing, when I saw a crop dusting plane out my side window. The plane went over us, and in a few seconds, my nose was running, and started coughing. I got to thinking: "What is this doing when I eat vegetables that have been sprayed with herbicide/pesticide? When I get the vegetables home, how do I know I washed all the "gunk" off the vegetables?"

I came to the realization that there was no way I could know if I washed the "stuff" off my vegetables. For instance, I ordered a hamburger with lettuce, tomato, onion, and mayo on it. When I ate apart of the sandwich that had lettuce on it, I felt a very bad burning on my lips. A few minutes later, my lower lip was swollen twice the size, and the pain was very great.

Was this caused by herbicide/pesticide not being washed off the lettuce? I don't know, but these two experiences were enough for me to turn to organic products.
